Building Resilience by Understanding Risk

Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is the world’s second most disaster-prone region, with both rapid- and slow-onset hazards becoming more frequent and intense due to climate impacts. From 2000 to 2025, there were around 1,500 disasters in the region. Yet with the right knowledge, they can be anticipated, managed, and even mitigated. RiskMONITOR is the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) next-generation platform for understanding, visualizing, and managing disaster risks in LAC. The platform turns data into decisions and transforms information into impact, combining cutting-edge science, AI-powered analytics, and empirical evidence (based on groundbreaking statistical analyses) to help governments, institutions, and communities build a safer, more resilient future.

What You’ll Discover

  • Dynamic country and sector dashboards. Explore interactive profiles that reveal each nation’s exposure, vulnerabilities, and governance capacity.
  • Data that drives decisions. Access reliable risk datasets, probabilistic models, and financial impact curves to guide investment and policy choices.

    Improving Lives with Knowledge

    At the IDB, everything we do is guided by one purpose: Improving Lives. In a region as diverse and dynamic as Latin America and the Caribbean, resilience is not an option. It’s a necessity. RiskMONITOR embodies this mission by making risk information accessible, actionable, and transformative. Through open data and intuitive design, the platform bridges the gap between science and policy, enabling users to turn knowledge into resilience and resilience into sustained human development. RiskMONITOR is one of several flagship initiatives led and developed by the IDB’s  Disaster Risk Management Unit in the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector. The Unit works across the LAC region to help countries become:
  • More resilient, with solid data, stronger governance, and strategic investment in critical infrastructure;
  • Better prepared, through modern early-warning systems, emergency readiness, and adaptive social protection;
  • Financially protected, through innovative tools that reduce fiscal vulnerability and safeguard development gains.
